Audrey Assad is made “New Every Morning” through her faith

Assad explains that she wrote “New Every Morning” with Matt Maher.

Audrey Assad may be the most talented Christian artist on the market today. With a polished, unique sound, she excels at creating a prayerful atmosphere. Images of a calm ocean were perfect for the video, since the music has an ebb and flow to it.

“New Every Morning” is from Assad’s 2016 album, Inheritance. The record reached #2 on the Christian and Folk Billboard charts and came in at 81 on the Top 200. Inheritance is full of worship music similar to this style; trance like worship music that builds to become almost a wall of sound.

In an interview with New Release Today, Assad explains that she wrote “New Every Morning” with Matt Maher. The pair wanted to write a “high view song,” which touches on everything from Creation and the Incarnation to the Word becoming flesh and dying on the cross. The bridge lyrics “at the cross, at the cross” are in reference to a hymn that Assad grew up singing.

Audrey also spoke about what “New Every Morning” meant to her:

One of the things in this song which is a good thing for me to cling to is the idea that in Genesis that God stirred the void and He is always making things new again. He not only made things new in the beginning, but He makes them new all the time. For me to not give into despair, it’s a good thing to sit and meditate about. Even in the most dark and dastardly of things, I’m clinging to the hope that God is redeeming all of it. I just don’t see it. I’m here down in the middle, just a soul among souls who are suffering.

I think for me in the song, repeating the phrase over and over again, “Your mercies are new, Your mercies are new, new every morning” is a good thing for me because I struggle to not fall into despair when I see so much suffering.
